Playa Grande Beach
Playa Grande is most famous for its leatherback turtles and surfing, and the Palm Beach Estates neighborhood is a popular area for viewing wildlife. The 4 mile long, white sand beach is never crowded and there are multiple surf breaks great for beginners and experienced surfers. Palm Beach Inn is located adjacent to the Las Baulas Marine National Park and nestled between the Tamarindo Estuary and Playa Grande beach.
Sea Turtle Nesting
Sea Turtles nest on Playa Grande and, as a national park, the beach is closed between sunset and sunrise during nesting season. Nesting season is between November and March and certified guides are required for nesting tours. Ask us if you are interested in a tour.
Estuary Tours
Estuary Tours vary in length and are best booked through us. On an estuary boat tour you may see a variety of birds, mammals and possibly crocodiles.
Outdoor Activties
As far as outdoor activities you are also in for a pleasant surprise. The walk to the estuary mouth is a nature walk unto itself. Nearby there are options for horseback riding, ATV tours, ziplining and many other outdoor adventures. Excursions and daily adventures are available through our concierge service. Bicycles, surf boards and surf lessons are also available for daily or weekly rental. Please ask the Palm Beach Inn team about reputable tours at fair prices.
Dining
At Palm Beach Estates, Malinches Restaurant is located on site and is one of the highest rated restaurants in the area. Cafe Mar Azul, Cantarana Bistro and the Grateful Hotel Restaurant are all within a five minute walk of the Inn.
There are several restaurants in the Playa Grande town both near the beach and up the road a couple hundred meters. Restaurants include (but not limited to) Huertos Pizza, Cafe del Pueblo, RipJack, and Kike’s.
Tamarindo
Also about a 10-20 minute walk + boat ride this town is great for tourist shops, restaurants, bars and nightclubs. Tamarindo also has large grocery stores and beachside dining. To get to Tamarindo, walk to the end of the peninsula (near the river mouth) and wave to one of the boat drivers. The cost is about $1.50 per person. When returning from Tamarindo it is necessary to get to the boats before 5 pm. If you miss the last boat, the taxi ride back to Palm Beach is about $30. Never swim across the river mouth or estuary as there are crocodiles.
